Standardkessel Baumgarte was commissioned in January 2017, as the general contractor, with the construction of the new process steam boiler plant at the location in Terneuzen in the Netherlands. After trial operation lasting four weeks, the plant was taken over on 26 June 2020 by E.ON Power Plants Belgium bv.

At the DOW Benelux BV site in Terneuzen, the largest DOW Chemicals production plant outside the USA, the new boiler plant was integrated into an existing power plant structure. The new steam generator is used for thermal utilization in the production of accumulating residual gases and the pressure protection of the steam in the event of the failure of the existing boiler plants. It also safeguards the process steam supply at the production location. The end customer DOW is provided, through the use of the highly efficient and extremely fast boiler, with the flexibility to react immediately to load changes, as well as – in interaction with the existing combined cycle gas and steam turbine plant – to decouple the steam and electricity production and to hence simultaneously align production to internal requirements as well as to the conditions of the energy market.

Requiring special mention is the fact that Standardkessel Baumgarte at the end of the project lasting several years was presented with the HSE award for safe assembly and commissioning work.
