Standardkessel Baumgarte constructs sewage sludge treatment facility in Bremen

May 2020

KENOW GmbH & Co. KG has commissioned Standardkessel Baumgarte with the construction of a sewage sludge mono-incineration plant for the treatment of the municipal sewage sludge from Bremen and the surrounding area. The plant is to be constructed on the site of Bremen’s industrial port close to the waste to energy plant “Kraftwerk Hafen” of swb.

The order comprises the engineering, supply, assembly and commissioning of a stationary fluidized bed firing system (System Raschka) with sewage sludge drying, heat recovery steam generator and other ancillary services. The new plant will generate steam and heat that is fed into the public grid.

With the construction of a sewage sludge treatment plant, KENOW is meeting the requirement of the Federal legislature that operators of large plants at the latest from 2029 are to process municipal sewage sludges and thus ensures an environmentally and climate-friendly, safe and economical disposal route for Bremen and the region at an early stage.

The plant is designed for a capacity of about 55,000 t/a.

Technical data
Rated thermal input: 18.1 MW
Fuel throughput: 55,000 t/a
Steam output: 21.2 t/h
Steam temperature: 450°C
Steam pressure: 65 bar
