Standardkessel Baumgarte receives NTP for first Sewage Sludge Combustion Plant

February 2021

Standardkessel Baumgarte GmbH (SBG) receives the Notice to Proceed (NTP) after Basic Engineering has been completed

After SBG received the order for the basic engineering in January 2020 from KENOW GmbH & Co. KG in January 2020, the next step in the KVA Bremen project has now been made with the award of the NTP. We are very pleased that KENOW GmbH & Co. KG relies on SBG for the realization of the project.

New sewage sludge combustion plant - environmentally and climate friendly as well as safe and economical

The new sewage sludge combustion plant is designed to meet the requirements of the federal government to recycle sewage sludge in an environmentally and climate friendly, safe and economical manner by the thermal utilization of sewage sludge. The combustion plant will be built on the site of Bremen's “Industriehäfen” district in the immediate vicinity of swb's power plant “Hafen” (MKK).

Standardkessel Baumgarte and Raschka continue to rely on a successful partnership

SBG will supply the heart of the new plant, the fluidized bed system for sewage sludge combustion (Raschka-System) and the steam generator. In addition, the scope of supply includes the complete sewage sludge conveying system including crane systems, sewage sludge drying as well as exhaust air system for the bunker and other ancillary components.

Superheated steam and heat for the local district heating network

Approximately 6.6 t/h of dry sludge will be combusted by the stationary fluidized bed combustion system producing 21.5 t/h of steam inside the boiler. The superheated steam will be used in a backpressure steam turbine to generate electricity. In addition, thermal energy will be generated and fed into the local district heating network.

Technical Data

Rated Thermal Input                  18.5 MW
Fuel Flow (dry)                           53.000 t/a
Steam Flow                                21.5 t/h
Steam Temperature                   450 °C
Steam Pressure                          65 bar
