Standardkessel Baumgarte supplies further boiler for Marl Chemical Park

The modernisation of Marl Chemical Park continues apace. Evonik is replacing a further power plant in the chemical park by a modern combined cycle power plant. The old power plant was previously used as a reserve power plant. This is now to make way for a modern and flexible gas and steam turbine power plant.

 

As early as August 2019, Evonik decided to replace two coal-fired power plants in Marl Chemical Park by two CCP plants. The planning and construction will be handled by Siemens Gas and Power GmbH & Co. KG as the general contractor. Standardkessel Baumgarte was entrusted with the supply of the two identical steam generators incl. ancillary trades. The construction of the third CCP plant will also be handled by Siemens jointly with Standardkessel Baumgarte.

 

The third CCP plant will on the basis of natural gas likewise produce electricity and steam in cogeneration and recycle various residual gases from the chemical production plants at the Marl location. Unlike the first two plants, some of the residual and waste gases from production will not be fed to the burner system of the third line. Otherwise, the third power plant will be constructed identical to the first two.

 

What is more, the new power plant unit will be linked to the existing plants so that, in the event of the failure or standstill of individual power plants, an uninterrupted supply of steam to the chemical park is ensured.
