Biomass Heat and Power Plant Hannover-Stöcken

The first boiler column is placed at Hannover-Stöcken site

August 2023

Our biomass project in Hannover-Stöcken is already in the assembly phase and the first boiler column is now in place. The boiler steel structure is now being continuously erected and the stairs and platforms installed. Other parts have already arrived on site and are waiting to be positioned.

Another milestone in the entire project process - the setting of the first boiler column - was successfully reached. Under the watchful eye of our site manager Dirk Wiszynski, the large tower crane picked up the first column and lifted it to its assembly site, where it was firmly bolted to the foundation. This marked the beginning of the assembly of the boiler and boiler house steel structure, including the stairs and platforms. Other plant components, such as the ash hoppers for the SBG feed grate and two of the total of four grate modules, have also already arrived at the construction site and are waiting to be put in their final place. Parts of the wet deslagger and the demineralised water tank have already been assembled.

The new biomass CHP plant will utilise approximately 200,000 tonnes of non-recyclable waste wood per year. With a rated thermal input of 90 MW, the BMHKW will feed up to 19 MWel of electrical energy into the power grid and, with a correspondingly reduced electrical output, provide up to 80 MW of heat to supply enercity's district heating customers. In pure heating mode, the plant can extract a maximum of 89 MW of heat with a fuel efficiency of almost 100 %. This is made possible by flue gas condensation, which exploits the calorific value effect. The condensation heat of the moisture in the flue gas is made usable for the district heating supply through the use of an absorption heat pump.
