In January 2014 Standardkessel GmbH received the order from the municipal utilities Stadtwerke Flensburg GmbH for the construction of a heat recovery plant with ancillary trades. 

After an overall handling time of 26.5 months it was possible for a further important Standardkessel GmbH reference to be handed over. 

As a result of damage to the gas turbine bypass stack, after a 4-week trial operation period the plant was initially used from 20.04.16 without this stack and the boiler was directly started up and shut down. 

After the replacement of the gas turbine bypass stack and a 2-week trial operation period, the plant was completely taken over by Stadtwerke Flensburg GmbH on 30.09.2016. All of the guaranteed parameters, including the extreme temperature difference of 1 K on the district heating heat exchanger were confirmed during the acceptance tests.

The gas and steam cogeneration plant consists of a gas turbine with downstream heat recovery boiler, the live steam from which is fed to a steam turbine. To increase the efficiency the steam is generated at two pressure levels and fed to the steam turbine. The plant is used also for the production of hot water for the district heat supply in cogeneration for the City of Flensburg; at the same time the CO2 output is reduced by 40% as compared with conventional plants. 

The quick-start capability of the heat recovery boiler serves to generate peak load current in the summer and is hence well suited as a way of compensating for the power fluctuations of the regenerative energies. Added to this is the fact that for flexibility purposes the district heating can also be switched off at times.
