Official Handover of the EfW Devonport Plymouth Plant

October 2015

In March 2011 Baumgarte Boiler Systems GmbH secured the order for the supply of the incineration line in Plymouth from Mannheim-based company MVV O&M. The order was divided into two phases. After the pre-engineering phase the order underwent a smooth transition to the delivery phase in the summer of 2012.

After an overall handling period of 55 months, including the pre-engineering phase of 16 months (Notice-to-Proceed Step 2 on 29.06.2012), a further important reference of Baumgarte Boiler Systems GmbH, as a system supplier with extended scope of supply, was handed over.

The first waste fire was successfully ignited on 15.05.2015.

After a 4-week trial operation period the plant EfW CHP Facility Devonport Plymouth was taken over on 11.10.2015 by MVV Umwelt O&M GmbH.

The plant now generates, due to the utilisation of 240,000 t.p.a. of municipal waste and waste from industry and commerce, 104 t/h of steam at 59 bar and 420°C. With the steam generator’s rated thermal input of 82 MW the supply of electricity and heat to the Plymouth naval base is ensured.

Final takeover will take place after the expiry of the statutory warranty period
