Retrofitting of a SCR Plant for thyssenkrupp Steel at the Duisburg Site together with VPC and Standardkessel Baumgarte

February 2021

Another steam generator of thyssenkrupp Steel Europe AG (thyssenkrupp) at the Duisburg-Ruhrort site of the gas-fired power plant "Hermann Wenzel" is being retrofitted with a catalytic nitrogen oxide reduction system (SCR system) by Standardkessel Baumgarte, as supplier to VPC. Following the successful conversion of unit RUH04, unit RUH03 is now being retrofitted in order to safely comply with the actual NOx emission limits during operation.

VPC GmbH (VPC) has received an order from thyssenkrupp to build the SCR plant. VPC has awarded the contract to Standardkessel Baumgarte GmbH for the engineering and supply of the reducing agent system and the SCR, to be integrated into the existing flue gas duct.

The scope of supply includes the complete design, engineering, installation supervision and commissioning of the plant. In addition to the integration of the SCR into the flue gas duct, the scope of supply also includes the reduction agent supply up to the injection into the flue gas path as well as the associated piping and instrumentation.

In doing so, thyssenkrupp is relying on both the technical expertise and the many years of experience of Standardkessel Baumgarte and VPC for the execution and realisation of the project, which has already been demonstrated at unit RUH04 with the successful retrofitting of the SCR.
