Standardkessel Baumgarte to supply two combined cycle boilers for Marl Chemical Park

September 2019

Evonik is continuing the modernization of the power plant complex in Marl Chemical Park which is one of the largest chemical plant locations in Germany and, at the same time, Evonik’s biggest production location. Evonik and other well-known companies of the chemical industry operate approximately 100 production plants there.

The last coal-fired power plant at the location is to be replaced by Evonik by two gas and steam turbine plants (combined cycle plants). After undergoing a relatively long joint development phase, Standardkessel Baumgarte received the order for the supply of two identical steam generators and ancillary trades from Siemens Gas and Power that is responsible as the general contractor for the planning and construction of the two combined-cycle plants.

The gas and steam turbine plants to be constructed will produce electricity and steam in cogeneration based on natural gas or liquefied petroleum gas and ensure economical, ecological and future-proof recycling of various residual gases from the chemical production facilities.

The new power plant units are linked to existing plants in such a manner in the event of the failure or standstill of individual power plants an uninterrupted supply of steam for the chemical part is guaranteed.
