The Task
Already in 2005, the replacement of an incineration line in the existing waste-to-energy plant (MHKW) was successfully completed for the same operator, swb Entsorgung GmbH. In this project, the task was to design a plant with a capacity not yet realized by Standardkessel Baumgarte for the power plant site in Hafen. The basis of the design was a fuel consisting of high-calorific commercial waste and sorting residues, defined as medium calorific.
The Solution
The tried-and-tested concept of a tail-end boiler, consisting of the furnace, two vertical radiant passes, tail-end with the convection heating surfaces, and vertical flow economizer heating surfaces in sheet metal cassettes, was selected. An extensive and elaborate banding concept was required to stiffen large boiler wall surfaces against the pressure conditions due to the flue gas column that had to be taken into account.
